Importance of Marijuana Testing in Drivers

It has become mandatory to conduct marijuana drug testing at workplaces by many organizations. It is especially important for transportation department to conduct regular marijuana drug tests on drivers. Marijuana abused drivers are responsible for accidents in rails roads, and airways.

THC, which is an active component of marijuana, impairs control of movement of body, coordination, memory, balance, and sensation. Alertness, coordination, and high concentration are important driving skills. As these are affected by marijuana usage, the abused drivers cannot react quickly to any particular situation. It becomes difficult for them to judge on distances, and react to sounds or signals. On the whole, the driving performance is affected because of these reasons. Hence, there are more chances of occurrence of accidents.

In order to avoid accidents, there is a requirement to conduct marijuana drug test on drivers. It is better to conduct the test during recruitment process to avoid any marijuana abused people to join. Also, testing should be conducted randomly to detect abused drivers. They can be terminated from employment or subjected to rehabilitation programs. The transportation department should conduct programs to educate the effects of marijuana on their health as well as on driving.

Reckless driving, motor vehicle crashes, and other fatal accidents can be avoided by regular marijuana testing on drivers.
