Home Insurance Premiums Could Rise Due to the Increasing Risk of Flooding

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), UK home insurance premiums are to rise as climate change is increasing the risk of flooding. Even some areas of the country are becoming uninsurable, due to the dramatic increase of flood risk. Worcester campaigner Mary Donhau said that home insurance premiums for now is more than £5000, and this amount could increase further.

It is found that one in four homes is prone to risk of flooding, taking into account all forms, including river flooding, sewage water, ground water flooding etc. It is estimated that the risk of flooding in Herefordshire alone is very high, putting 8000 homes at risk.

The Association of British Insurers said that the damage caused by the floods in 2007 resulted to a cost of £3 billion by the insurance industry. The Environmental Agency has completed 158 schemes since 2007, and it has increased protection to more than 128,000 properties.

It is quite seen that every year, the Environment Agency would need an additional £20 million to invest in flood defenses. If the properties were granted planning approval against Environment Agency advice, then the insurance industry may not insure new developments in flood plain areas. A recent report from National Audit Office says that, there must be 10% cut in government funding and it should be given to flood defenses.

People in UK urging government to consider a more sustainable long-term solution for their homes and families that not only implies reducing risk of flood, but importantly need to safeguard affordable flood insurance for all UK citizens.

Know the Difference Between a Creche and a Nursery

In today's busy lifestyle, most of the families contain working parents with their kids left alone. However, many parents are involved in finding a great childcare facility to take care of their kids. Child care can be provided in-home or outside. In-home childcare includes care provided by nannies, babysitters, relatives, or au pairs. However, there are many other options of childcare that are provided out of home. Child care centers, nurseries, creches and many others come under this category. Each of them differs from the other. Here is a description that notes the differences between a creche and a nursery.

There are two main issues that differentiate a creche from a nursery. Those includes the time period of childcare and the age of the children. Let us first discuss on the first one. A nursery cares for children all the day from 8.30 am to 6 pm. So, you can leave your kid in a nursery and take him or her back when you return home from the workplace. This is best suitable for families in which both the parents are working.

Whereas, in a creche, the childcare is provided only for a certain period of time, say two to three hours. If you are supposed to go to shopping or have any other work, you can drop your child in a creche and pick him up in three hours or so. Also, you have some creches operating at gym and other places like shopping centers to look after the kids while you are busy. However, there are some workplace creches where kids are taken care throughout the day.

Coming to the next issue, creches take care of children who are generally two or three years of age. Whereas, a nursery includes childcare for kids from as young as three months. So, nurseries are ideal for childcare for younger babies as well as for school goers. Note the difference between them and choose the appropriate one based on your needs and preferences.
